Chronically

Timeclock software using real-time clock-in/out data to ensure compliance with breaks & overtime laws, and accurate payroll

Features

Proactive text & email alerts

It's not helpful to know someone missed a break after they leave! Chronically alerts staff (and managers) about deadlines in advance, so you stay compliant!

Break enforcement

Optionally, require people to take legally-owed breaks & only pay for what's legally-required (see examples)

Real-time calculations

Common schedule changes (e.g., someone clocks in late) affect paid or unpaid breaks owed. Chronically makes adjustments in real-time to avoid under- or over-payment (see examples)

Use anywhere

Chronically is a website not an app, so can be accessed by both cellphones & on-site computers

Track location

Optionally, collect GPS data when people clock-in or out for mobile employees

Smart break categorization

Leads to better user experience, lower legal risk, and optimized pay (learn more)

Staffing compatibility

Can be used for staff with fixed (e.g., on-site cashiers) or flexible schedules (e.g., remote hourly staff)

Summary reports

Designed & formatted to be copied & pasted directly into payroll or Excel for data analysis

Bilingual

Timeclock instructions also available in Spanish

With Chronically alerting you & your team about required breaks & overtime as the shift progresses, everyone is free to focus on work & not think about time management at all!

About this project

I'm James, I built Chronically for my tiny store where we have had between 1-3 staff working. As we are a micro-business, I am not always on-site to remind folks about breaks & overtime. And I couldn't ask people to just follow the rules themselves because they are complex & deviations from regular schedule can affect how a break is paid or not (see examples). Also, people accidentally forget!

When we implemented Chronically in early 2020, I told staff to treat the proactive alerts like me reminding them to clock-out. Now we have 100% compliance with overtime & required breaks. And we discovered that our previous timeclock software provider had led to overpayment by about 1 hour per person per month due to inaccurate break accounting.
